Research area
Markus Kreft is a Ph.D. candidate and doctoral researcher at the Bits To Energy Lab at ETH Zurich. His work focuses on technologies and incentive structures that enable a high share of renewable energy sources in the power grid of the future, using tools based on optimization and machine learning.
As the share of sustainable power generation in the energy grid increases, distributed resources play a more and more important role. Therefore, Markus studies the interplay between customer behaviour, pricing models, and automatic control of appliances to incentivise both, a fair distribution of power grid costs and a high grid efficiency. A specific focus is the use of data mining and machine learning techniques to analyze, predict, and intelligently control the charging of electric vehicles, aiming to better integrate them into the power grid.
Markus Kreft holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Physics from Heidelberg University, where his research focused on the dynamics of biologically plausible neural networks. He specialized his studies on statistics, data analysis, and machine learning. Markus has industry experience from an internship in the infrastructure sector.
